Roller, Blind or Drape: Chosen by Room.

Motorized roller shades, blinds and drapery tracks, wired or battery, quiet enough for the bedroom.

Roller shade, blind or drapery track?

Motorized drapery installation, roller shades and blinds share the same quiet motors and the same scenes. What differs is the room.

Sheer, blackout, or both on one window.

Sheers soften the light and keep the view, blackouts take the light away, and a pair on one window does both, morning and night.

Lutron Palladiom, sheer

A shade pocket, planned before the ceiling closes.

A shade looks built in when it is drawn into the plans. This is the order it happens in the house.

  1. A designer reviewing a floor plan on a large screen

    The window schedule

Every window measured and listed with its fabric, motor and power, room by room.

  2. A Lutron Palladiom shade tube resting in its machined bracket

    Pocket and power

A ceiling pocket and a power feed go in before the plaster, so the shade disappears.

  3. A Lutron Palladiom shade with its motor fitted inside the tube, seen from below

    Tube, motor, fabric

The motor sits inside the tube, the fabric is rolled on, and the shade is hung.

  4. A dark woven fabric rolled on a Lutron Palladiom tube

    The hembar, level

The weighted hembar is set dead level, so every shade in the room stops on one line.

  5. A bright white kitchen with roller shades lowered partway over tall windows

    Scenes and schedules

Each shade joins the keypads and scenes, and the schedule that follows the sun.

Should our shades be battery-powered or wired?

It depends on where the project stands. Wired shades suit a new build, where the wiring goes in before the walls close, and never need their batteries changed. Battery-powered, wire-free shades need no wiring to the window, so they suit a finished home.

How quiet are motorized shades and drapery tracks?

Whisper-quiet. The motor sits inside the shade’s tube and the drapery tracks are hidden, so shades and curtains move smoothly without a sound worth noticing, and with no pull cords or bulky valances in the room.
